Lady Dior Saga Continues - Lady Grey London Featuring Marion Cotillard - Experience the Power of Beauty That Inspires!

To me, there are some styles & fashion accessories are just a classic beauty, timeless iconic style that will never go out of style; The Lady Dior bag is the perfect example of it.

The house of Dior has cleverly collaborating with big name directors to created a series of mini short film that features different Lady Dior bag in each season, which they call it “The Lady Dior Saga”, and what a beautiful and inspiring journey it has been! So far from the “Lady Noir”, “Lady Blue Shanghai”, “Lady Rouge” to the latest installment of their high quality, enticing short film name “Lady Dior Grey London”.

John Cameron Mitchell, the man behind cult films Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Shortbus, has teamed up with Dior’s creative geniuses to make a short fashion film starring Marion Cotillard.

Lady Grey London shows Cotillard as a popular & glamorous burlesque dancer who enjoys bathing in giant sand-filled hourglass and throwing sultry, mysterious looks at members of the audience. One of whom is played by venerable wheel chaired Brit actor Ian McKellen; and of course, this being a Dior film, Miss Cotillard carries her Lady Dior bag in almost every scene.

I am so in love with Dior's Spring 2011 Couture show! It was inspired by Monsieur Christian Dior's favorite fashion illustrator René Gruau. He was famous his fabulous Ad campaigns back in the 1950s for House of Dior, glamorous yet minimal brush strokes, just a dash, swift, decisive strokes of gouache, charcoal & pen, it captures of all the beautiful embroidery, shapes of Monsieur Dior's creations.

The Magic of Fashion Illustrations & My Favorite Illustrators - Rene Gruau & Alfredo Cabrera

It’s another cold spring night in San Francisco bay area, as I am relaxing on my sofa, sipping some hot Jasmine pearl tea from my favorite Le Palais des Thés, I was flipping through some of the art books I’ve collected since I was a fashion student at Parson School of Design back in 1992 in New York City, there I came across a book of my favorite fashion illustrator Rene Gruau.

Before the adobe photoshop, illustrators and other computer art programs, a fashion illustrator is the key person to translate a designer’s vision from the runway to the general public! To me, Rene Gruau was the greatest fashion illustrator! With his trademark use of his powerful minimal lines, a gash of bright lips or a wash of color, Gruau’s style combined seductive sophistication with classic beauty, grace and sensual elegance. He had captured the spirit of haute couture & the glory days of Parisian high fashion with his pen and brushes.

Rene Gruau was born in Italy in 1909. In the 1940‘s and 50‘s Gruau became a favorite of the haute couture world, working with Femina, Marie-Claire, L'Officiel, L'Album Du Figaro and other “high-style” magazines. Some of Gruau’s best work can be seen in the dramatic visual statements he rendered for Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Elsa Schiaparelli, and Hubert de Givenchy. In 1948 Rene Gruau left for the United States to work for Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue, before becoming the exclusive artist for FLAIR. He also produced stunningly beautiful advertisements for the LIDO, MOULIN ROUGE and BEMBERG. His illustrations had totally influence on modern day fashion advertising and photography.

After enjoying Gruau’s beautiful illustration book, it reminded me to check out the blog (Mamie N Baby) from another one of my favorite fashion illustrator, Alfredo Cabrera. He is a seasoned fashion designer whom had designed for Geoffrey Beene, Polo Ralph Lauren, Victor Alfaro also had lend his talented fashion illustration skills to ad campaigns & window displays to Henri Bendel, Missoni, Gianfranco Ferre, Tommy Hilfiger, Hollister and many more famous fashion houses.

I love how “free” and “easy” the lines flows in his illustrations! The women in his sketches all has this effortless high fashion elegance feel to it and translate glamour in a casual and approachable way that you can totally relate to!

He currently an Asst. Professor at Parsons School of Design teaching the lucky few students how to draw beautiful fashion illustrations and his long anticipated book “ 101 Things I Learned in Fashion School” with Matthew Frederick will be release on May 20th, 2010. I can’t wait to get a copy of this book!! It’s now ready for pre-order from Barnes & Noble - Click here or Amazon.com - Click here. If you are into fashion illustrations, then this is a must-have book for you!

I hope you enjoy these beautiful illustrations as much I do and inspire you to pick up a pencil and start sketching! Oh! don't forget to visit & subscribe to Alfredo Cabrera's blog! Click here to visit his fabulous "Mamie N Baby" & enjoy his fashion illustrations.

Until next time, be well & look fabulous!

XOXO

Film Noir Meets Fashion - Lady Dior Cannage Bag Film

Dior has done it again! Besides their fabulous clothing & accessories collections, even their AD campaigns are now captivate our imaginations! Directed by Olivier Dahan , featuring French actress Marion Cotillard, Dior has released a mini film of its own - a lady James Bond adventure. For this ad campaign, Dior has invited 2008 Oscar winning French actress Marion Cotillard as its advertisement spokesperson as well as the famous photographer Peter Lindbergh to take shots. Taking a fancy to Marion’s noble temperament, so Dior selected her to be the model who can match with the new Lady Dior Cannage Bag perfectly.

"Chapter 1: A Lady Noire Affair". The film shows off the men in perfectly pressed Dior Homme suits, and Marion Cotillard rushing up the Eiffel Tower in amazing black heels, distinctly shaped "Diorette" sunglasses and the Lady Dior Handbag. Dior has cleverly put their best selling handbag on display with a short film and the episodes will continue. I'll be blissfully await the next video made in New York "Lady Rouge".

Below you can view “The Lady Noire Affair”, which was released in May. Do not expect to get all the answers right away. If you pay careful attention there are clues provided. So who will save lady Dior? We will have to wait and see.
